EXO 1747-214

A. N. Parmar, N. E. White, P. Giommi, L. Stella and M. Sweeney, EXOSAT Observatory, report a new transient x-ray source at R.A. = 17h47m25s0, Decl. = -21deg24'46" (equinox 1950.0; error radius 10"). Two type I x-ray bursts were seen during 8 hr of pointed observation on Apr. 8 and 11. The source intensity was 0.07 Crab with no obvious orbital modulation. The spectrum is a power law with an energy index of 1.4 attenuated by 1.1 +/- 0.2 x 10**26 H/m**2. M. Watson, Leicester University, reports that this source was also active one year earlier during the EXOSAT galactic-plane survey.
